Achieving the Look

In an effort to achieve the look of an ice queen, we dressed the model in a white wedding dress with a light blue cape. We added the dramatic makeup, applied by Caitlin Plumpton from Chill Spa, which helped support the color harmony and elegance of her look. She focused on the blue spectrum, because the ice tends to reflect the sky. She also applied beading and crystals to the model’s face to give her makeup a three-dimensional feel.

The model was placed in front of a wall of ice with her arms outstretched and her head tilted up towards the sky, which gave her a bit of a mystical sense. We placed a 3×4-foot softbox above and to the left of the subject, pointing down. A Larson 4×6-foot Super Silver Reflector was positioned to the right. This was a necessary piece of equipment because it was important to bounce light back in to her face. We enhanced the color, hue and saturation and chose a compressed color range to complete the image that we envisioned in postprocessing.
